CPDS is getting to be an institution engaged in a sustained campaign
for promotion of Human Security, specially in the South Asian region.
The year 2001 was of great significance for many reasons not the least
being the terrorist attacks in the United States and in India, the former
bringing in an international coalition against the terrorist organizations
which had its ugliest manifestations in the South Asian neighborhood.
Against this background the campaign for promotion of Human Security
assumes tremendous importance. And CPDS was fortunate to have contributed
a fair share in this campaign.
Conference on "Third Sector and Knowledge Based Development"
held at NewDelhi
In October 2001, the CPDS Research Coordinators Arabinda Acharya
and Utpal Pati participated in a national conference on "Third
Sector and Knowledge Based Development" organized by the Association
for Third Sector Research in India (ATRI) in association with Charities
Aid Foundation India (CAF India) and the Ford Foundation at New Delhi.
Arabinda Acharya presented a paper titled "Defining Third Sector
and Emerging Trends: Promoting Human Security in India."
Conference on "SAARC in 21st Century" held at Kathmandu
In December 2001, the the CPDS Research Coordinator, Arabinda Acharya
was an invitee to the Regional Conference organized by the Regional
Centre for Strategic Studies (RCSS), Colombo, Sri Lanka) at Kathmandu,
Nepal. The theme of the conference was "SAARC in 21st Century".
Arabinda Acharya presented a paper in the conference titled, "Promoting
Human Security Through Multilateral Cooperation."

Conference on "Defence Technology and Cooperative Security"
held at Sri Lanka
CPDS Research Coordinator Arabinda Acharya at the Summer Workshop on
"Defence, Technology and Cooperative Security" held at Tangerine
Beach Resort, Kalutara, Sri Lanka from 5th January 2002 to 14th January
2002, organized by the Regional Centre for Strategic Studies(RCSS),
Colombo. Arabinda Acharya, was a visiting Research Fellow with the RCSS
in January 2002, during which time he visited other institutes such
as Centre for Policy Alternatives, International Centre for Ethnic Studies
and had extensive interactions on issues of common interest.
